Nothing but the Blood - 6. Noah: Blameless & Still Short

Noah Blameless at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church     From Nothing but the Blood Audio
Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. —Genesis 8

So in Eden, we saw immediately God indicating that blood was the way back—even if Adam and Eve weren’t able to discern it, then. And with Cain & Able, we saw God quickly showing that it was never the blood He wanted. There wasn’t an amount of blood that would reconcile God and humanity’s non-negotiables, but that there was a heart component to it.

Adam and Eve have another child, Seth, and humanity continues. Generation upon generation move forward. Some are good and some do evil. One of the three men who did not die (free Rooster eBook for the each of the first to name these men in the comments section below) is stuck in there, too. There were good men who walked with God. They were doing relationship with God in the hope that one day . . .

Nothing but the Blood - 5. Cain't Like That

Nothing but the Blood - Cain't Like That     From Nothing but the Blood Audio
So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the Lord of the fruit of the ground. Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had regard for Abel and for his offering; but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. —Genesis 4

When my son was small, he’d see something on television that was strange and say, “I can’t like that, daddy.” When it comes to blood in Scripture, it’s easy to just offhandedly say the same. But as we saw previously, blood was the currency God chose to redeem us. While blood is certainly easy not to like, its choice must tell us something about the One Who chose it. And almost immediately, in persons number three and four, it appears that God has another message for us.

Scripture tells us that Cain was a farmer while Abel was a shepherd—technically a keeper of flocks. Neither was under any requirement by the Law to provide a sacrifice. The Law won’t come around for another few thousand years until Moses brings it.

Something in these men told them. . .

Nothing but the Blood - 4. First Blood

Adam & Eve First Blood     From Nothing but the Blood Audio
The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them. —Genesis 3

We’ve talked about the fall here some (click here to see some of the context and blessing of it), but this is new. We’re in the fourth part of a series answering the question:

Why did God choose blood as the currency to redeem mankind?

We’ve created a context (Billy Graham at Great St. Mary’s), seen the role of non-negotiables in relationship and established that blood is different than any other substance. But now, we’re going to examine specific examples of blood sacrifice (from just after the beginning) as clues to what God is telling us about Himself.

This may seem odd, but I’d submit that nothing in Scripture. . .
