Nothing but the Blood - 12. Redemption Out of Pawn

Redemption out of Pawn     From Nothing but the Blood Audio
. . . knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.  —1 Peter 1

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. —Titus 2

So what if God was telling us what He was going to do from the beginning? We’re in a time when the world is looking for less discussion of what will/should/needs to be done. We measure results.

If the entirety of Scripture was pointing toward Calvary, what did Jesus on the Cross actually do for us? If that was God’s solution for working through His and my/your/our non-negotiables, then let’s measure what the blood of Jesus did. In the context of this series, over the next six installments, we’ll look at the six things that the blood of Jesus did.

But if you’re not careful, you’ll miss it.

Nothing but the Blood - 11. Strengthen Yourself

Strengthen Yourself - God Loves You     From Nothing but the Blood Audio
. . . But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.  —1 Samuel 30

Before we transition into answering the next question, I want to review the previous six lessons and share something personal. If any of these six are unfamiliar to you, click the link to go back and review.

In recreating the 1955 talk the Billy Graham gave that changed England, we’re looking at blood sacrifice throughout Scripture. We’re answering the questions:

If you’re God, why choose blood as the way to redeem humanity/overcome the relational non-negotiables/bring man back into relationship with you, and

How can I trust One Who would choose that way?

We’ve surveyed a number of stories of sacrifice within Scripture and we’ve seen that:

Nothing but the Blood - 10. Before I Pass Over

Before I Pass Over     From Nothing but the Blood Audio
Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slay the Passover lamb. You shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning. For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.  —Exodus 12

With the path we’ve traveled here (seeing that blood is the way back, but there’s a heart piece, except that even the righteous fall short, so God will stand in the gap because One, the right One, covers for everyone and God will provide that One) we’re now in a position to put it all together.

Abraham’s son, Isaac, has Jacob. Jacob has twelve sons who (more or less) become the 12 tribes of Israel. Everything goes well in Egypt (Exodus 1:7, Exodus 2:24), for a while, until the descendants of Israel fall into 400 years of slavery (Exodus 1:11-14).

God raises Moses up (Exodus 3:2) and calls him back to Egypt to demand freedom for the slaves. Nine plagues scourge Egypt, but God (Exodus 10:27). . .
